Dr. Tamu Green Dr. Tamu Green is a developmental psychologist and thought leader who brings expertise and lived experience in communities facing inequities in her pursuit of social justice through institutional and systems change. Her arc in fighting for change began over three decades ago with efforts aimed at dismantling apartheid, retaining students of color in academia, and updating the US Census to reflect the reality of multi-racial Americans. Since then, she has been engaged in power-building efforts that synergize resources, facilitate equity-oriented decision-making, and turn advocacy into outcomes. Dr. Green is the CEO of the Equity and Wellness Institute, where she works collaboratively with a talented team of staff and consultants to assess and meet a wide variety of clients’ and communities’ needs. She has served numerous local, regional, and statewide organizations and institutions to support them in their aspirations of advancing social justice in communities throughout California and beyond by providing comprehensive strategy development, research and advising services. Her clients include: United Way CA Capital Region, Escala Educational Services, CA Department of Public Health, CA Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions, Center for Applied Research Solutions, CalABLE in the CA Treasurer’s Office, Linc Housing, CA Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission, EdInsights, CA Tahoe Conservancy, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and CA Arts Council. Those efforts have recently come to fruition as jurisdictions locally and globally are beginning to put this innovative policy into practice. The story is featured in TIME Magazine, the UC Davis Magazine, and the Listen for Real Podcast. Dr. Green’s efforts have been aided by her networks, including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and American Leadership Forum, of which she is a senior fellow. She received a bachelor’s degree in sociology, with an emphasis on social inequality, from UC Santa Cruz and a doctoral degree in human development, with an emphasis on adolescent socio-emotional development, from UC Davis.
